On May 3, 2022, in accordance with the letter of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine as of 22.04.2022 №1 / 4408-22 and the Recommendations for interviews with applicants for professional higher education, the students of the Faculty of International Relations of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University learned about Mines and explosives and emergency behavior from the specialists of the Explosives Service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Volyn region. It was a mixed practical session on “Security measures and algorithm for detecting suspicious (explosive) objects.”

The event was attended in person and online by the representatives of all academic groups of the faculty, research and teaching staff of the faculty and administration. The event was organised by the Deputy Dean, Associate Professor Yevgenia Vozniuk and Deputy Head of the Department of Youth policy and Social Work. The students learned about modern types of explosive devices, their range, impact area, characteristics, and handling rules.

It was stressed that demining, neutralisation or destruction of explosive devices is undertaken only by trained specialists, such as sappers, admitted to this type of work. The conversation about handling of unknown objects and devices ended with important information about explosive objects and rules of conduct in case of their detection. The Specialists of the Explosives Department of the Volyn Oblast National Police said that if serial mines, shells and grenades were found, professionals should be called immediately to fence the area and neutralise the dangerous finds. Children and teenagers deserve special attention, because their natural curiosity leads to fatal experiments: they put ammunitions on fire, test them by hitting hard, try to disassemble, bring home, to the yard or school.

Therefore, it is extremely important to explain the consequences of such actions, to teach the rules of conduct in such situations. In case of finding an explosive device it is FORBIDDEN:
– to get closer to the subject;
– to move it or take it in hand;
– to discharge, throw, hit him;
– to light a fire nearby or throw an object at it;
– to bring the object home, to the camp or school.
You must report the discovery to the police or adults immediately!
