Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University has joined a pilot project of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, and the NGO “Innovation Partnership Platform” (YEP).
In particular, in the 2020/2021 academic year, associate professors of the Faculty of Economics and Management Olena Ivashko and Natalia Hrytsiuk will introduce the discipline "Innovative Entrepreneurship and Startup Project Management" into the educational process. It is for this reason that Olena Ivashko and Natalia Hrytsiuk underwent a three-day certified training conducted by the YEP platform.
The developers of the pilot course said: “Fostering of startup culture in Ukrainian universities and mastering students’ and university teachers’ entrepreneurial skills is a critical component of creating an effective ecosystem for the development of innovative entrepreneurship in Ukraine.
In any developed startup ecosystem in the world, universities play one of the most important roles. Ukraine should not be an exception. Innovation and entrepreneurship should give the impetus to the growth of universities and their achievement of a qualitatively new level."
The University is the best environment for creating the first student startups. During their studies, students can implement their scientific and engineering developments, term papers, and ideas into business projects. The discipline "Innovative Entrepreneurship and Startup Project Management" is especially relevant for students of economic specialties, for whom the skills of working on their own projects are important. Taking this course significantly expands students’ opportunities for professional development, as well as gives them an opportunity to create their own business while studying at university.

However, the greatest effect for students and the University can be achieved if this program is introduced as an elective for all specialties of the university, because, as practice shows, the best results are obtained by multidisciplinary teams, which include economists, mathematicians, and humanists.
The introduction of the academic discipline in partnership with YEP will guarantee the quality of teaching, ongoing support of teachers’ qualifications, prospects for students to continue developing their projects after the end of the semester within the incubation or pre-acceleration program of YEP and partner accelerators. Students will be able to easily and safely try themselves in entrepreneurship, feel like part of a startup ecosystem and prepare their own startup for entering the market or searching for the first investment.
