While February 14 is traditionally Valentine's Day, for 16 students of the Faculty of International Relations of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University it is also a day of getting acquainted with peers from State University of New York (Brockport, USA) and the beginning of an international virtual exchange project titled “Ukraine-USA: Discussing Obstacles to EU Accession”.
For eight weeks, the students from two continents will assess the prospects and conditions for joining the European Union, as well as discuss opportunities to meet European requirements for Ukraine.
The project is supposed to be a real challenge for Ukrainian students, because they will have to defend their views in English before native speakers. The project is held under the auspices of the American Councils in Ukraine in collaboration with the Department of International Online Education at New York State University, Brockport. From the Ukrainian side, the project is coordinated by Olena Kovalchuk, Professor of the Department of General Pedagogy and Preschool Education; Andriy Boyar, Professor, Head of the Department of International Economic Relations and Project Management, Lesia Ukrainka Volyn National University, and from the American Department, Steve Zhurek, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science and International Relations.
