The soldiers, who decided to defend Ukraine on their own initiative, were honored on the occasion of Volunteer Day in The Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral in Lutsk.
Mykhail, the Metropolitan of Lutsk and Volyn, led the church service, during which the participants prayed for peace in Ukraine and the health of volunteers and all Ukrainians. The Volyn chaplains, who voluntarily went to the front at the beginning of the war to support the soldiers, conducted divine service along with the archbishop.
"In times of danger and trial, not only do professional soldiers begin to fight for the defense of their motherland, but also those who cannot calmly respond to what is happening in their own land. The great love for our homeland that is in our hearts inspires us to overcome difficulties. We are gathered to pray for those we see alive and well, for those who are not with us anymore and at the same time to be inspired to work for the sake of the future,” said Archbishop Mykhail and called on everyone to unite in confronting the enemy.
Lesya Ukrainka Eastern European National University leadership and staff participated in the common prayer at the cathedral. Rector Anatoii Tsos awarded the volunteers and military chaplains - students and graduates of the university with notes of commendation. Anatolii Vasylovych also called on people to remember all those who died, including students of our university - Andrii Snitko, Artem Karaban and Stanislav Potapchuk.
Later volunteers with the clergy and all present went to the Stele of Remembrance "Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred - fallen for the Unity of Ukraine." After the church service for the dead, all present placed flowers on the memorial stand.
“Honoring the volunteers who stood up for Ukraine is necessary. We are to live and develop as a nation, as long as we cherish the memory of the victims and help those who survived. Then we have the prospect of development”, - summed up rector Anatolii Tsos.
