On Saturday, July 16, a charity mini-football tournament was held on the field of the Volyn National University stadium. The Student Council of the University initiated the competition to raise funds for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The participants of the event made voluntary contributions which will later be spent on the purchase of a thermal imager for the 14th separate mechanized brigade bearing the name of Prince Roman the Great.
Five teams competed for the charity cup: Yavir, Lyshche, Red bull, Olympia-Nova, and the team of Student Council. The football battles were preceded by the official opening ceremony attended by representatives of the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University authorities. The rector of the university, Anatolii Tsos, wished the participants a pleasant game and victories.
“We all understand that the most important task is to aid the Armed Forces. And each of us, whenever possible, should contribute to this. It is extremely gratifying that the student council of our glorious university actively organizes various events, thereby contributing to our victory,” the head of the university emphasized.
The participants played according to the “one-on-one” scheme, where the first place will be won by the team that beat the Student Council with the most points. All the games of the tournament were extremely vivid. The opening match was led by Red bull. Subsequently, Yavir and Lyshche celebrated victories over their rivals. At the equator of the competition, all teams had a chance of winning. Only at the end one of the teams broke through without losing a single game.
The fate of the second step of the podium was decided by “Student Council” and “Olympia-Nova” in a head-to-head match. In an emotional and combative game, the latter triumphed – 1:0. In the end, the “Student Council” took third place, “Olympia-Nova” – the second, and the winners of the tournament were the players of the “Red Bull” team.
Individual awards from the organizers were a pleasant complement for football players:
- the best scorer – Bohdan Dmytruk,
- the best player – Bohdan Aranderchuk,
- the best goalkeeper – Ivan Fedorchuk.
- the best defender – Vladyslav Stefanyshyn.
At the end of the event, the rector of the university awarded the prize-winners of the tournament with commemorative cups and diplomas. All the teams received awards for their active participation. Owing to this competition, the University Student Council managed to collect about three thousand hryvnas.
“The participants of the tournament are great guys, and all the teams deserve the highest awards. Each of you today brought Ukraine closer to victory,” concluded the representative of the University's Students' Self-Government.
