Students and professors of the Faculty of Philology and Journalism met with Volyn pen-masters – Nadiia Humeniuk and Volodymyr Lys. The event, assisted by Svitlana Kresak, Lesya Ukrainka University the library supervisor took place on Wednesday, May 12th, as a part of the Science Festival. The guests shared the experience and told about the results of their creative efforts.
Volodymyr Savovych was pleased to present such novels as “The Promise”, “The Sylvester’s Island”, “The Old Cholera” and “Jacob’s Age”. The latter was filmed according to Andrii Kokotiukha’s screenplay. The author expressed his opinion on the picture and said: “You know, this film is theirs, they created something of their own, and distorted what was mine, so even my Jacob was turned into a coward”. The writer also disclosed his creative plans regarding his new novel.
Nadiia Pavlivna noted that children's books and lyrics collection were published last year and also told about her latest book “A Crown for One Night”. The novel is an intriguing story about a pretty girl from some town in Volyn region. The author shared the writing experience and lifted the veil of painstaking work she had conducted. “The book is a fusion of a detective, historical study, an intense reflection on human destiny, on what is more important in our life, and whether fame is worth achieving”, she said. Ms. Nadiia drew the attention to the novel “Heather Honey” that won Ukrainian Literary Award “The Coronation of the Word”. The writer claims that the book is the history of Volyn, the history of two theatres, in particular the first one, which was founded by Mykola Pevnyi in Lutsk. Nadiia Pavlivna characterised her children’s works as “the children’s stars in the children’s sky”, talking about “The White Wolf on the Black Road” and “The Meeting on the Barefoot Bridge”. In the end, the author recited her own poems and admitted that poetry is her gift from God.
Afterwards teachers and students had the opportunity to put questions. At the end of the event Lilia Lavrynovych, the Dean of the Faculty of Philology and Journalism, presented the Certificates of Appreciation to the invited guests on behalf of the University.
Nataliia KHARCHUK
