Representatives of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University attended the opening of the exhibition “Karol Wojtyla. Birth”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Pope John Paul II.
The grand opening took place in the Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral. The event was also attended by Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk Slavomir Misyak, representatives of regional and city authorities and clergy of various denominations, and Lutsk residents who honor the memory of John Paul II.
The opening of the exhibition began with a welcoming speech by Consul General of Poland in Lutsk Slawomir Misiak and continued with a greeting from the choir "Volyn" of the Tadeusz Kosciuszko Polish Culture Society, and a lecture by Chancellor of the Lutsk Diocese, Canon Pavlo Khomiak “A summary of the thoughts of John Paul II based on the encyclical and papal appeals".
In his welcoming speech, Rector of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University Anatolii Tsos emphasized the majesty of the figure of Pope John Paul II and his influence on society.
"We, educators, also need to remember and adhere to the truths that St. John Paul II professed regarding love, faith, hope, freedom, choice, and life. He was a very bright and outstanding personality not only for the Polish and Ukrainian peoples but also for the whole world," Anatolii Tsos said.
Afterwards, a joint ecumenical prayer was held with the participation of representatives of the Lutsk Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine, the Volyn Exarchate of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, and the Volyn Diocese of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. During the prayer, the clergy asked God for unity, peace, and prosperity.
After the opening, the Rector together with students and Dean of the Faculty of Philology and Journalism Lilia Lavrynovych viewed the exhibition.
