The Consortium was established on April 12, 2006, initiated by the Centre for Eastern European Studies at the University of Warsaw.
Today, the Consortium comprises 14 member-universities of Ukraine. During the meeting, the Rector of Warsaw University, Prof. Aloizy Nowak, offered assistance to Ukrainian students and the scientific community. In particular, he expressed readiness to help with accommodation in dormitories, social and financial assistance programmes, opportunities for student learning and work for scientists.
Jan Malicki, Director of the Centre for Eastern European Studies, also assured of support for the Ukrainian side. The representatives of the Ukrainian delegation took the floor: the First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Andrii Vitrenko and the Director of the Directorate of Higher and Adult Education Oleh Sharov.

From their speeches, the Polish colleagues could learn about the situation in Ukraine, the work of universities in wartime and the higher educational institutions’ actual implementation of profile ministry tasks. Rectors of Ukrainian universities also spoke during the meeting to propose specific ways of cooperation and assistance. For example, they asked their colleagues to join the appeals to close the sky over Ukraine, to provide free access of students and teachers to foreign libraries, and also entreated to the civilised world to stop cooperating with Russia.
