The preparations for the establishment of the Educational and Scientific Medical Institute and the admission of international students are actively conducted at Lesya Ukrainka EENU.
On June, 30 lecturers of Biomedical Faculty, Faculties of Chemistry, Environmental Sciences and Pharmacy, and Faculty of Philology and Journalism took an exam for identifying their level of proficiency in English. These were professors who are to teach Medicine and Humanities to international students during their first 3 years of study.
As Vice Rector for Methodological Work and Innovations, Vadym Ulianov, said, “This is important, because the process of education needs to be carried out with much consideration, and the students of EENU should be satisfied with it”. He also mentioned that the exam had comprised 3 blocks; namely, tests, speaking and writing. Several more exams of such type are to be introduced later, in order to check the professors’ skills of presenting material on their own topics.
According to one of the participants, Associate Professor at the Department of Human and Animal Physiology, Andrii Poruchynskyi, “It was a great opportunity for each of the participants to determine their level of proficiency in English, as well as to recall those things that we are to deal with later on, when the students are already here.” Everybody could analyze their knowledge and thus see which improvements are to be made.
When the results are calculated, each participant will obtain his personal training plan developed by the personnel of the Faculty of Foreign Philology. The University will provide facilities for both off-site and on-site learning.
“Consequently, we will have our lecturers well-trained for their task”, Vadym Ulianov said.
The intake of international students for the newly established Educational and Scientific Medical Institute will end on November, 1. This means that the professors have 4 months to have their language skills improved.
“We worried about the reaction of professors, who are to become students themselves. It is pleasant that everybody displayed professionalism and understanding. People are satisfied”, Vadym Ulianov summarized.
