The student family of Lesya Ukrainka University accepted freshmen to its ranks. The solemn inauguration of first-year students took place on September 18 at the Victor Zavadskyi Stadium.
This year, 1,327 boys and girls became freshmen at the University; 850 students entered the master's program; another 50 people – postgraduate studies; 7 - doctorate. First-year students will study at 14 faculties, three institutes and the College of Technology, Business and Law.
The event began with the performance of the National Anthem of Ukraine, a minute of silence for those who died and a prayer of the clergy. First-year students Iryna Protsiuk (Faculty of Philology and Journalism) and Tetiana Savchuk (Faculty of Chemistry, Ecology and Pharmacy) read solemn vows, which were repeated by all freshmen.
Rector Anatolii Tsos was the first to take the floor. He told the audience about the order of the Ministry of Education to rename the university from Eastern European to Volyn. After the completion of all procedures, the University will be officially renamed. This should happen within two to three weeks. In addition, the head of Lesya’s University spoke about the achievements of the higher education institution, improving positions in the rankings, dual education and many other relevant and important things.
“Every big business starts with small steps. If you want to be successful, to change Volyn, Ukraine and the world, you need to study,” stated the rector, and later addressed the students' parents:” I sincerely thank you for believing in us and recommending your children to enter our University.”
Iryna Vakhovych, the chairman of the Volyn Regional Council, also congratulated freshmen: “You have chosen an excellent higher education institution of the national level. I wish you to use your time to study.” The head of the Volyn City Council expressed the belief in good productive cooperation between Lesya Ukrainka University and Lutsk NTU.
First Deputy Mayor of Lutsk Hryhorii Nedopad told the audience that he is also a graduate of Lesya’s University. “I see familiar faces from the stage who had taught me. These people gave hope that we need to develop and really succeed. Dear students, the years you will spend at the University will be the best. Good luck to you,” said the public officer.
The 50 best freshmen with the highest EIT scores received certificates for a scholarship from the Ihor Palytsia “Only Together” Foundation. In addition, gifts and thank-you letters were presented to students who participated in dual education projects, athletes and other talented youth of Lesya’s University.
Many more congratulations came in honour of the causers of the holiday. The event was accompanied by an intensive concert program and a festive atmosphere.
