Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Technology
Ivan Dmytrovych Olekseyuk – Professor, Doctor of Science. born June 13,1940 in thevillage ofVerkhovyna, Kholm region. Graduating Rozhyshche school No.1 in 1957, joined the Department of Chemistry atUzhgorodUniversity. In 1962-1964 he worked in P/S-23 inKherson. Returned toUzhgorodUniversity in 1964, where he worked on teaching positions. In parallel, he studied in graduate school of A.F. Joffe Physico-Technical Institute (Leningrad). In 1969 he defended his PhD thesis at theInstitute ofInorganic and Physical Chemistry AzRSR (Baku), and in 1983 – his doctoral thesis at the M.S. Kurnakov Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry (Moscow). Since 1984 worked in Lesya Ukrainka Lutsk State Pedagogical Institute’s as head of the department of natural sciences. From 1991 worked as the Institute’s Vice-Rector. On his initiative, the Department of Chemistry was founded in 1993. Rector ofVolynNationalUniversity in the period 1995–2005. Pedagogical experience of Prof. Olekseyuk in higher education stretches 48 years. During this period, he taught a variety of subjects of chemical profile. Prof. Olekseyuk is a noted scientist working in the field of semiconductor materials sciences and engaged the most pressing problems of the search for new materials for science and technology. His main research interests cover a wide range of issues and concerns theoretical aspects of materials sciences, physical and chemical analysis, synthesis of new phases, crystal chemistry, crystal growth, the study of the properties of complex chalcogenides and halides. Prof. Olekseyuk is much credited with the development of theoretical basis for the synthesis of new solid-state complex chalcogenide phases with predictable properties. The choice of this research topic was very successful and fruitful and helped to create a scientific school which for a short period (from 1985), despite the difficult period for the country, took its rightful place alongside renowned research centers of Ukraine and the world concerned with obtaining new materials.
The research of Prof. Olekseyuk resulted in more than 600 publications, including 8 books, about 400 papers, 15 patents. Many articles were published in prestigious international scientific journals, thereby laying the foundations of international cooperation. Today theschoolofProf. Olekseyukcollaborates with research centers inRussia,Germany,SwitzerlandandPoland.
Prof. Olekseyuk holds the degree of Doctor of Chemistry, Professor, Honored Scientist of Ukraine (1996), winner of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (2000), the Excellence in Education of Ukraine award (1996).
Currently Prof. Olekseyuk lectures in the courses "Introduction to physico-chemical analysis" and "Physico-chemical analysis" for 4th-year students of the Department of Chemistry, "Chemistry of Semiconductors" for Master’s students specializing in his department. Development of teaching methods for the courses was an important aspect of the educational work of Prof. Olekseyuk, as evidenced by more than a dozen different educational works, including the highly acclaimed laboratory workshop "Methods for obtaining and study of inorganic semiconductors." Now productively working on publishing of a lecture course "Introduction to physico-chemical analysis."
