The Head of the department: Doctor of Economics, Professor Andrii Boiar.
International Economic Relations Department was created on August 5, 1998 by the order №120-3 of the rector of the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn State University. The first head of the department was PhD in Economics, associate professor Andriy Syshchuk. From 2001 to 2007 the Head of the department was the candidate of geographical sciences, associate professor Valentyna Korchun. From 2007 to 2019 the Head of the Department was PhD in Economics, professor Nataliya Volodymyrivna Pavlikha, and the department received its current name. Since 2019 Doctor of Economics, professor Andrii Boiar has been the Head of the Department.
The scientific potential is growing up. During the years of the department activity 2 doctoral (N. Pavlikha – 2007 and A. O. Boiar – 2015) and 5 candidate dissertations (N. Shcherbata – 2010, I. Kytsiuk – 2013, K. Dedeliuk – 2014, V. Kukharyk – 2015, O. Korneliuk – 2018) were defended, academic titles of the professor (N. Pavlikha) and associate professors (A. Boiar, I. Skorokhod, O. Korneliuk, I. Kytsiuk) were received.
Lecturers of the department regularly improve their skills by studying in postgraduate schools, doctoral studies, taking trainings and internships at the universities in Ukraine (The Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, Ivan Franko Lviv National University), in Poland (Marie Sklodowska Curie University (Lublin), State School of Higher Education (Chełm) etc.).
From year to year dozens of scientific and educational works are published by efforts of the Department’s staff, organizing and holding scientific events at the national and international levels, strengthening ties with the lecturers of the universities and research institutions of Ukraine and foreign countries. The list of study programs offer by the Department is constantly increasing. In 2015 a Master's degree program “Project Management” was opened. The training of doctors of philosophy in the speciality "International Economic Relations" is planned.
Research
Research Project of the department: “Transformation of External Economic Model of Ukraine under Global Destabilization of Regional Markets” (0120U104811).
Lecturers of the department effectively combine teaching with research work. Dozens of scientific and educational and methodical works are published yearly. The total scientific achievements of teachers, doctoral students and postgraduate students of the department for the entire period of its operation exceeds 1000 publications. Among them there are about 60 monographs, 30 textbooks, 350 articles in professional publications of Ukraine, 40 articles in foreign peer-reviewed periodicals (including journals Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection). The interests of scientists of the department cover almost all areas of international economic relations, including international business and trade (N. Naumenko, I. Skorokhod, I. Kytsiuk), European integration (A. Boiar, N. Naumenko, K. Dedelyuk), international competitiveness and innovative development (N. Pavlikha, K. Dedelyuk), international transport logistics (N. Naumenko), international labor migration (N. Naumenko, O. Totska), economic diplomacy (K. Dedelyuk), international financial and monetary relations (N. Naumenko, A. Syshchuk), cross-border cooperation (O. Kornelyuk), foreign economic relations and policy of Ukraine (N. Pavlikha, A. Syshchuk, I. Kytsiuk, O. Totska), supranational budgeting (A. Boiar), regional development (N. Pavlikha, I. Skorokhod, O. Kornelyuk) etc.
Such state financed projects have been performed at the department since 2008: “Euroregion “Bug”: Preconditions and Strategic Priorities for Sustainable Spatial Development”, “Euroregion “Bug”: market transformation in the context of interregional integration”, “Innovative forms of business activation in the context of European integration”, “Development of regional markets in the context of deepening European integration processes: mechanisms of competition and convergence”.
Some research projects are financed by private sector. In 2021 the project “Research and consulting to establish business partners in the European Union market” was piloted in partnership with LLC “Zahidprompack”. In 2017–2019 the EU Erasmus+ grant project “EU Project-Management” (Jean Monnet Module) was implemented. In 2019–2022 the EU Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Chair “EU Studies at the Lesia Ukrainka VNU” was successfully complete. In 2021 the new EU Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Chair “Sustainable, Inclusive and Smart Development in Terms of Decentralization Process: the UE Experience” was piloted.
Study Programs
The Department of International Economic Relations and Project Management provides training for applicants for two educational degrees: "Bachelor" and "Master".
The recruitment of applicants for the educational degree "Bachelor" is carried out in the specialty 292 "International Economic Relations", the study program "International Business". Graduates obtain a professional qualification "Specialist in international business with in-depth knowledge of a foreign language (indicating the language)" (full-time study).
During four years of study at the "bachelor's degree", students undergo industrial and translation practices, perform two courseworks, study about 30 disciplines of general and professional direction, of which two foreign languages of their choice (English, German, French, Polish or Spanish). Disciplines of more detailed specialization (25 % of total academic courses) students choose independently. The recruitment of applicants for the master's degree is carried out in two specialties: 292 "International Economic Relations" and 073 "Management". In the first specialty, graduates receive the qualification "International Economist, specialist in international economic relations with in-depth knowledge of a foreign language (indicating the language)", the second – "Specialist in international projects and programs with in-depth knowledge of a foreign language (indicating the language)". At the choice of students, training in the specialty "International Economic Relations" can be carried out in English. Groups with English-language studies include both Ukrainian and foreign students from Africa and Asia. Graduates of educational programs of the department can hold a wide range of positions in international companies, private and state enterprises, public administration bodies, educational and scientific institutions, etc.
Extra curriculum activity
Students life is not only about passing exams and tests. That is why the joke appeared: “Students have fun from session to session”. Future international economists and businessmen combine time for study and entertainment successfully.
Students of the International Relations Faculty take an active part in university, faculty and departmental events, such as: scientific, tourism, sports and charity. They also participate in career guidance work and social projects. Students organize and conduct spring and winter schools of international relations, debate tournaments, scientific quests, meetings with ambassadors of Ukraine, Spain, India, Great Britain, etc.
As a tradition of communication with schoolchildren and the city public has become the Science Festival Fair, which is carried out at the university annually in the second decade of May. At the festival, students demonstrate their knowledge through games, competitions, quests and promoting their educational programs offered by the departments of the faculty.
Especially popular among the students of the Faculty of International Relations are visits to state institutions of Ukraine to get acquainted with various aspects of their activities: Verkhovna Rada, Cabinet, Presidential Administration, the Chamber of Commerce, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Diplomatic Academy, National Bank etc. Students also travel to the different places of Ukraine, for example, to climb the mountains Hoverla, Parashka, Zakhar Berkut. In addition, very popular are trips abroad to Vienna, Budapest, Prague, and other major cities of the European Union.
Students have unforgettable celebrations, such as: “Day of the Faculty”, "Miss and Mr. of the Faculty", «Andriyivski vechornytsi», “Day of the Freshman”, “Cognitive game "What? Where? When?””, “Day of the Embroidered Shirt (Vyshyvanka)”, different performances in English of the faculty theater "Modern Globe", “Dedication of the Freshman", “Game "Who's on top?"”, photo quests, thematic flashmobs, meetings with graduates of the faculty, watching movies in the original language, "Student Juvenile", etc.
