The representatives of Volyn Regional Employment Centre and Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University met to discuss the multiple directions of future cooperation.
Head of Volyn Employment Centre Roman Romaniuk explained that the institution is no longer merely a labour exchange: “We now have different functions. We are working to support the economy and employers. We are subordinate to Ministry of Economy instead of Ministry of Social Policy for some reason. This means we are no longer a socially-oriented, but an economic structure.”
Roman Romaniuk demonstrated the structure of the institution and presented the statistics. According to him, one aspect of the cooperation would be implementation of institutionally paid vouchers for education of adults aged 45+. Maximum sum of money for a grantee would be equal to about UAH 24,000. The available specialties would include Psychology, Social Work, Geodesy and Land Management, Physical Therapy, etc.
Rector Anatolii Tsios stated that Lesya Ukrainka University is a structure that is financially fully dependent on itself. He said, “The prosperity of the institution depends on the number of students, so the University is now 50-60 % like a business enterprise. We have completely changed our policy, and now we are #1 university by pace of development in Ukraine. It is due to the fact that we openly share the results of our work. We now have more than 200 students participating in our dual education program, and about 200 students are studying concomitantly at VNU and abroad. 2 years ago, Lesya Ukrainka placed 75 in the Top 200 universities of Ukraine. Today, it places 23.”
An important issue of the discussion was the revival of the VNU Career Centre, a fundamental location for employment search for graduates. It was agreed that the revival will be supported by the Volyn Employment Centre. The new establishment will be a place for students to receive information on how and where to look for a job, how to complete a resume, how to act at a job interview, and how to better perform at internships.
The parties agreed to organize joint events and to boost the process of employment of young specialists. At the end of the meeting the relevant contract was signed and a group photo was taken.
