Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department
The Department of Ukrainian Literature was established in 1953 on the basis of the current Faculty of Philology, which has existed since 1940. The first head was A. Omelkovets, a graduate of Lviv University, who together with another talented representative of the Lviv Scientific School, a student of Academician M. Wozniak – G. Mudryk, for many decades determined the content and level of philological education and science in Volyn.
Since the mid-1950s, teachers of the department have been conducting large-scale cultural and educational work: numerous trips with students Shevchenko, Franko places, literary expeditions to the Volyn region, visits to local and national museums - all this created an atmosphere of intellectual and intellectual search. During the period 1955–1970, the number of teachers changed qualitatively and quantitatively, as the departments of Ukrainian language and literature merged. The joint department was headed by G. Batsman, and since 1957 - Candidate of Philological Sciences A. Omelkovets. Since September 1970, the Department of Ukrainian Literature has been functioning as a separate structural unit. In the following period it was headed by G. Mudryk, M. Smolenchuk, O. Rysak, D. Lyashchinsky, N. Stashenko, I. Konstankevich, G. Yastrubetska. From September 2020, the duties of the head of the department are entrusted to the candidate of philological sciences, associate professor V. Іaruchyk.

The Department of Ukrainian Literature took part in the already completed project to prepare a complete 14-volume collection of works by Lesia Ukrainka (Prof. I. Konstankevych, senior lecturer T. Danyliuk-Tereshchuk, Assoc. Prof. O. Malaniy, senior lecturer). A. Radko, Assoc. Prof. L. Semenyuk, Assoc. Prof. V. Siruk, Assoc. Prof. V. Іaruchyk) - 2020.
Participation in the international project on preparation and publication of Lesya Ukrainka's works in foreign languages (published drama extravaganza "Forest Song" in English, German, Crimean Tatar, Belarusian and Polish) (senior lecturer T. Danyliuk-Tereshchuk).
The International Scientific Conference on the topic: "Lesya Ukrainka's Universe: Man, Culture, Nationosophy" (June, 2016 on the basis of Gart practices, Svityaz Island) was successfully held. literature ". An international symposium on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Lesia Ukrainka "Personality, Nation, World" (June, 2021) and an international conference "Creativity of Lesia Ukrainka: national and cultural codes and European tradition" were held together with colleagues.
Members of the department are research supervisors and consultants of graduate students, doctoral students who have defended their dissertations on Ukrainian literature and folklore in recent years.
